Macassar public housing maintenance day success

The City’s public housing maintenance teams headed to the Macassar community residential units (CRUs) for important maintenance and upgrades. The City carried out emergency and general repairs, which included plumbing and electrical work among others. 

The City is placing a large focus on its affordable rental units and has set aside more than R1,2 bn for upgrades and maintenance. The City’s maintenance and upgrades programme is being carried out across the city.

‘We encourage residents residing in City affordable rental units to reach out to us for their maintenance needs and emergency repairs. In Macassar, our teams not only focussed on the general repairs and maintenance inside of the public housing units, but also around the public housing blocks. Our teams repaired and replaced laundry and washing lines and repaired potholes in and around the general areas. The team of expert artisans also attended to electrical and plumbing service requests, among others.

‘We are continuously investing in the upkeep of, and enhancing safety at our public housing units and we are doing our best to improve the lives of our residents in all areas. The City’s maintenance day service offering is proving to be a huge success as we are able to pool resources and attend to as many public housing repair service requests as possible. Our teams will be in many more other areas over the coming days and weeks.

‘Tenants are encouraged to reach out to the City for their maintenance needs and emergencies, and we ask that you stand with us in our fight against public housing vandalism.
